Threshold Network (T) paused tBTC minting and new Bitcoin redemptions on October 31 while node operators patch a critical Linux kernel vulnerability. The project told users not to send BTC to old deposit addresses and said existing tBTC can still be held, transferred and used normally.<\/p>\n

What The Pause Covers<\/h2>\n

The pause affects new BTC deposits, tBTC minting and new Bitcoin redemption requests through the Threshold app. Pending redemptions may still pay out on the Bitcoin network, but final settlement on Ethereum is paused, so some transactions may be delayed. Threshold also asked users not to retry pending transactions and to keep deposit receipts and transaction hashes while the pause is in effect.<\/p>\n

Threshold (T)<\/a> runs tBTC, a token backed by Bitcoin held by a decentralized set of node operators. The project sits in the DeFi coins<\/a> category on Coinranking and operates across the Ethereum ecosystem<\/a>. Transfers and trading of existing tBTC are unaffected by the pause.<\/p>\n

Why The Pause Happened<\/h2>\n

A critical Linux kernel vulnerability affected the machines that Threshold node operators use to sign minting and redemption requests. The project told operators to patch their servers or take their nodes offline while waiting for a fixed version. Threshold said its operators have already patched or isolated their systems.<\/p>\n

The pause is a precaution. The project reports no fund losses and no unauthorized minting, and says tBTC remains fully backed. Market data since the announcement is on the Threshold price chart<\/a> on Coinranking.<\/p>\n

Aave Market In Focus<\/h2>\n

The redemption freeze also drew scrutiny to a tBTC market on Aave worth about $136 million. Risk manager Gauntlet published an assessment of the exposure, and Aave opened a governance thread on how the lending market should respond while redemptions are closed.<\/p>\n
