The network runs 111 active nodes, and each one bonds at least 300,000 RUNE as collateral. Every node gets one vote. Major changes need support from two-thirds of active nodes, which is at least 74 votes.<\/p>\n

How THORChain Node Voting Works<\/h2>\n

Developers and community members propose changes through open discussions on Discord. The ideas get reviewed by participants, refined and turned into code by developers. Nodes then decide whether to adopt the new software version, and at least two-thirds of active nodes must approve. THORChain says decisions are made directly on the blockchain, so an important change only passes when the node set backs it. The size of a node's bond does not change its voting power. Economic decisions, including fee changes, follow the same two-thirds threshold. Proposals that reach the node stage have already been discussed in public, so votes tend to cover changes the community has already reviewed.<\/p>\n

What Mimir Parameters Change<\/h2>\n

Nodes also control network parameters through Mimir, which lets operators adjust settings without a full software upgrade. Operational Mimir settings, particularly security ones, need only three node votes. Four nodes can vote to rescind an operational setting, and five votes can then counter that decision.<\/p>\n

How THORChain Handles Security Automatically<\/h2>\n

The bond each node posts is collateral for honest behaviour, and one vote per node keeps large and small operators equal. Not every network action needs a vote. THORChain automatically removes two nodes every three days and halts swaps when it detects insolvency, according to the Blockonomi report<\/a>. The rules give node operators direct control over upgrades, economic parameters and certain security measures.
