BNB Chain, the network behind BNB (BNB)<\/a>, released the BSC-Reth v0.1.4-hotfix on November 6, 2026, and told every BSC-Reth node operator on mainnet and testnet to install it and restart. The patch fixes an error that could make the client compute the wrong state root under specific conditions.<\/p>\n

What the BNB Chain BSC-Reth Hotfix Changes<\/h2>\n

A state root is a cryptographic summary of account balances, contract storage and other network state. Nodes use it to check that they agree on valid data. The bug fixed in v0.1.4-hotfix could make Reth calculate that summary incorrectly along a legacy calculation path. The release pulls in the correction from the upstream Reth project. Operators need no database migration and no separate hard fork. The required action is an installation followed by a restart.<\/p>\n

Who Needs to Install v0.1.4<\/h2>\n

The upgrade recommendation covers all reth-bsc node operators on BSC mainnet and testnet: validators, maximal extractable value block builders, full node operators and sentry operators. Ordinary wallet users do not run node software. BNB Chain said the exposure on BSC-Reth was limited and that opBNB does not use op-reth, the related client named in the wider Reth security discussion. Other EVM networks running Reth-based clients shipped similar fixes this week.<\/p>\n

Red Alarm Flags Risky Apps for Users<\/h2>\n

On November 7, BNB Chain also pointed users to Red Alarm, the risk scanner inside its DappBay service, live since July 2022. Red Alarm flags decentralized applications and smart contracts that meet potentially risky conditions and lets visitors scan a contract or wallet address before they connect.
