KuCoin is registered in the Seychelles. Johnny Lyu has been CEO since 2020, and the team works from several countries. In January 2025 KuCoin pleaded guilty to US charges of running an unlicensed money transmitting business, paid about $297 million and agreed to stay out of the United States for two years.

Is KuCoin safe?

KuCoin was hacked in 2020 for about $280 million. Most of the funds were recovered or frozen, and users did not lose money. The exchange now publishes proof-of-reserves reports.
