How does Uniswap work?

Uniswap is an automated market maker. You swap tokens from your own wallet against liquidity pools, with no order book, account or KYC. Uniswap v3 introduced concentrated liquidity, and v4, launched in 2025, adds hooks so developers can customize pools.

What tokens can you trade on Uniswap?

What are the Uniswap fees?

Each pool sets a fee tier, usually 0.01%, 0.05%, 0.30% or 1%, which goes to liquidity providers. You also pay the network gas fee, which is much lower on layer-2 networks than on Ethereum mainnet.

Is Uniswap safe?

Uniswap's contracts have been audited and battle-tested for years. Anyone can create a pool, so scam tokens exist. Always check the token address. The protocol's governance token is Uniswap (UNI).
