What Are DEX Tokens?

DEX tokens are the coins of decentralized exchanges, or DEXs. A DEX is a crypto exchange that runs on smart contracts, without a company holding your funds. Its token is often used for voting, fee sharing or rewards. This list ranks DEX tokens by market cap, with live prices and 24h changes.

How DEXs Work

Most DEXs use an automated market maker (AMM). Users called liquidity providers add pairs of tokens to a pool. Traders swap against that pool, and a formula sets the price. Liquidity providers earn a part of the trading fees. Other DEXs use an order book, where buyers and sellers place orders, like on a regular exchange.

A centralized exchange (CEX) is run by a company. It holds your funds and usually asks for identity checks. A DEX lets you trade straight from your own wallet.
