PsyDAO was initiated in 2022 by veterans of the founding teams of VitaDAO, Molecule, and Gitcoin — three pioneering organizations in the decentralized science and public goods funding space. It was incubated by Molecule and accelerated by bio.xyz.

The DAO's initial PSY token sale raised approximately $2 million (661 ETH), providing the treasury with capital to deploy toward research grants, IP development, and ecosystem growth.

How PsyDAO Token Works

PSY is the fungible governance token of PsyDAO. Holders can vote on proposals that determine how treasury funds are allocated, which research projects are supported, and how the DAO evolves over time.

PsyDAO employs a two-token governance structure. PSY holders participate in standard governance, while PSYC — a soul-bound token — grants elevated governance rights. This layered system is inspired by Nobel Prize-winning economist Elinor Ostrom's work on managing shared resources.
