Introduction

Synternet Token (SYNT) is the native utility and governance token of the Synternet network — a modular, interoperable data infrastructure built to connect blockchains and power the next generation of AI-driven Web3 applications.

At the heart of Synternet lies the Data Layer, a customizable execution layer that sits between blockchains, enabling real-time, trustless data exchange without relying on centralized APIs or intermediaries.

History & Background

Synternet traces its origins to 2017, when it was founded under the name Syntropy with a focus on decentralized internet routing and data access. The project's native token was originally known as NOIA.

As the project evolved toward powering a real-time data economy for AI agents, Syntropy rebranded to Synternet. All NOIA tokens were migrated to SYNT at a 1:1 ratio, reflecting the project's expanded mission. The Synternet mainnet subsequently launched on the Cosmos ecosystem, with an ERC-20 bridge to Ethereum maintained for exchange listings.

How Synternet Token Works

Synternet uses a Publish-Subscribe (PubSub) protocol at its core. Publishers generate and stream data organized into subjects (data streams), while consumers — including AI agents and developers — subscribe to and pay for access to those streams.

Autonomous Economic Agents (AEAs) are a defining feature. These software entities run AI models, consume real-time blockchain data, and sell actionable insights back to users in the form of data streams or interactive responses. All interactions and data access are priced in SYNT.

Tokenomics

SYNT serves four primary functions within the Synternet ecosystem:

  • Security: Validators and Delegators stake SYNT as collateral to secure the network. Malicious behavior is penalized through slashing.
  • Governance: Token holders submit and vote on on-chain proposals to shape protocol direction.
  • Gas: SYNT is the gas token of the Synternet blockchain, used to pay for computation and prevent spam.
  • Agent economy: AI agents earn and transact exclusively in SYNT, making the token central to the platform's intelligence economy.

Token allocation spans categories including finance, sales, team, community, node rewards, and advisors, ensuring broad distribution across ecosystem participants.

Ecosystem & Use Cases

Synternet targets developers and organizations that need reliable, real-time, cross-chain data. Use cases span DeFi (collateral tracking, protocol health monitoring), trading (market predictions), and general infrastructure monitoring.

The platform also hosts a decentralized AI marketplace where agents compete and collaborate, with SYNT holders able to stake on high-performing agents and earn a share of their revenues.

Team, Governance & Community

Synternet was co-founded by Domas Povilauskas, Kipras Kazlauskas, Domantas Jaskunas, Jonas Simanavicius, Justinas Valutavicius, and William Norton. The project is led by CEO Daniel Haudenschild.

Governance is fully on-chain: SYNT holders propose and vote on protocol changes, reinforcing a community-driven development model. The project emphasizes open-source development and transparency.

Advantages

  • Real-time cross-chain data without dependence on centralized APIs
  • Composable AI agents that can build on each other's outputs
  • Multi-layered token utility covering staking, governance, gas, and payments
  • Cosmos-native architecture for scalability and low transaction fees
  • ERC-20 bridge ensures broad exchange accessibility

Risks & Challenges

  • Smart contract risk: Despite successful audits, inherent vulnerabilities remain in any smart contract system
  • Regulatory uncertainty: The evolving global regulatory landscape for data protocols and crypto assets poses compliance risks
  • Adoption dependency: The token's value is tightly linked to demand for agent-based interactions on the network
  • Competitive landscape: The cross-chain data and AI-agent infrastructure space is rapidly growing with multiple competing projects

Long-Term Vision

Synternet aims to become the foundational data and intelligence layer for Web3 — an open protocol where anyone can build, train, and profit from AI agents powered by live, verified blockchain data. By bridging AI capabilities with decentralized infrastructure, Synternet positions SYNT as the currency of an emerging 'economy of intelligence' across the broader crypto ecosystem.

Frequently Asked Questions

SYNT is used for staking to secure the network, paying gas fees on the Synternet blockchain, participating in governance, and transacting within the AI agent economy. All data streams and agent interactions on the platform are priced in SYNT.

NOIA was the original token of the Syntropy project, the predecessor to Synternet. When the project rebranded and launched its mainnet on Cosmos, all NOIA tokens were migrated to SYNT at a 1:1 ratio.

SYNT is natively issued on the Synternet blockchain, which is built on the Cosmos ecosystem. It also has an ERC-20 representation on Ethereum, maintained via a two-way bridge, primarily to support exchange listings and DeFi liquidity.

AEAs are software entities that run AI models, consume real-time blockchain data from Synternet's Data Layer, and sell insights to users as data streams or interactive responses. They form the core of Synternet's AI agent economy and earn revenue in SYNT.

Validators and Delegators stake SYNT tokens as collateral to help secure the Synternet blockchain. They earn rewards from transaction fees and block rewards, but can face penalties (slashing) for malicious behavior.

Synternet was co-founded by Domas Povilauskas, Kipras Kazlauskas, Domantas Jaskunas, Jonas Simanavicius, Justinas Valutavicius, and William Norton. The project is currently led by CEO Daniel Haudenschild.

SYNT is available on decentralized exchanges including Uniswap (ERC-20) and Osmosis (Cosmos-native), as well as on multiple centralized exchanges. Users can also provide liquidity to SYNT pools on these DEXs.

The Data Layer is Synternet's core protocol — a customizable execution layer that sits between blockchains and enables real-time, trustless data exchange using a Publish-Subscribe (PubSub) mechanism. It allows developers and AI agents to access live, verified data from any supported chain.
