Introduction

Carry Protocol is a blockchain-based platform designed to bridge the gap between offline commerce and the crypto economy. It connects merchants, consumers, and advertisers in a transparent, decentralized ecosystem where data ownership sits with the consumer.

The platform addresses a fundamental problem in offline retail: fragmented customer data, lack of consumer control, and ineffective advertising channels. Carry Protocol proposes blockchain technology as the infrastructure to fix all three.

History & Background

Carry Protocol was co-founded in 2018 by the team behind Spoqa, the company that built Dodo Point — the leading tablet-based loyalty platform in South Korea and Japan. Dodo Point had already secured over 10,000 partner merchants and 15 million customers, tracking billions of dollars in offline payment data annually.

Building on that real-world foundation, the team launched Carry Protocol to extend offline commerce capabilities into the blockchain world, with an initial focus on South Korea as a test market before global expansion.

How Carry Protocol Works

Carry Protocol consists of two core components: the blockchain layer (Carry Transaction Database and Carry Smart Contracts) and a set of APIs (Carry Wallet API and Carry Device API).

When a consumer makes a purchase at a partner store, the point-of-sale device transmits transaction data to the consumer's wallet app. The consumer then chooses whether to upload that data — fully or partially — to the blockchain. Privacy is preserved through anonymity shields and data encryption.

As an incentive for sharing data, consumers are rewarded with CRE tokens from the Carry Token Pool. Advertisers can then use the anonymized, on-chain data to run targeted, effective campaigns directly through the platform.

Tokenomics

CRE is the native utility token of the Carry Protocol. It serves multiple roles within the ecosystem: it functions as a payment method at partner merchants, a reward for consumers sharing transaction data and viewing ads, and a governance tool allowing holders to vote on community proposals.

CRE can also be staked to unlock additional features and services within the Carry network. The token distribution model is designed to align incentives among consumers, merchants, and advertisers.

Ecosystem & Use Cases

  • Carry Wallet: A consumer-facing app with CRE deposit and real-life rewards, integrated with the Dodo Point loyalty platform.
  • Offline retail: Merchants gain richer customer insights; consumers earn CRE for their data.
  • Advertising: Advertisers access verified, consent-based transaction data for precise targeting.
  • Web3 gaming: Carry has expanded into Web3 gaming, introducing tradable in-game ad slots and tools for game developers to monetize digital assets.

Team, Governance & Community

The core team comes from Spoqa, bringing years of hands-on experience in offline loyalty systems. Governance is community-driven, with CRE token holders able to participate in platform decisions through community voting.

The Carry community is active across Telegram, Twitter, and other channels, with supporters and developers contributing to protocol growth.

Advantages

  • Real-world utility: Grounded in an existing offline commerce ecosystem with millions of real users.
  • Consumer empowerment: Users control their own data and earn rewards for sharing it.
  • Transparent advertising: On-chain data enables consent-based, verifiable ad targeting.
  • Established team: Founders have a proven track record with Dodo Point in South Korea and Japan.

Risks & Challenges

  • Adoption hurdle: Convincing traditional offline merchants to integrate blockchain tools remains a challenge.
  • Competition: The offline retail tech space is competitive, with many established players.
  • Regulatory uncertainty: Data privacy regulations across markets could affect how transaction data is handled on-chain.
  • Market evolution: The protocol has shifted focus across multiple verticals (retail, gaming, Web3 advertising), which may dilute product focus.

Long-Term Vision

Carry Protocol's long-term vision is to become a foundational layer for Web3 commerce — connecting the offline retail world with decentralized, consumer-centric data infrastructure. By empowering consumers to own and monetize their data, the protocol aims to reshape the relationship between buyers, sellers, and advertisers in both physical and digital spaces.
