Key Takeaways

  • S&P Global Ratings vault risk assessments now publish onchain through Chainlink.
  • Base is the first supported blockchain for the onchain data.
  • Delivery runs through Chainlink DataLink and the Chainlink Runtime Environment.
  • The work follows S&P's stablecoin stability assessments, which went onchain with Chainlink in October 2025.

Chainlink (LINK) is expanding its collaboration with S&P Global Ratings to bring the ratings firm's vault risk assessments onchain. The data is live first on Base, and delivery runs through Chainlink DataLink and the Chainlink Runtime Environment, which retrieve the assessments, check them and publish them to the blockchain.

How the Integration Works

S&P Global Ratings issues a Vault Risk Assessment, or VRA, for lending vaults. The VRA is a forward-looking opinion on the relative risk of impairment to an investor's position in a lending vault. S&P says it is not a credit rating and does not comment on yield.

The assessments cover portfolio credit quality, liquidity mismatch, curator risk, blockchain risk, protocol risk, and vault security and governance risk. Under the expanded deal, that analysis is delivered onchain so DeFi platforms and institutions can read it where the capital actually sits. Base is the initial supported blockchain. The structure mirrors the earlier rollout of S&P's stablecoin stability assessments, which also went onchain through Chainlink.

What the Onchain Data Is For

Lending vaults sit at the crossroads of real world assets and DeFi coins. Until now an independent risk view of a vault lived in research portals and PDFs. Onchain delivery lets a protocol, an allocator or a user check a vault's assessment alongside the vault itself.

S&P Global Ratings and Chainlink first worked together on stablecoin stability assessments, announced in October 2025. The vault product extends the same idea to lending vaults, and it arrives as Chainlink prepares its Link:NYC summit in New York on October 29. The Chainlink price chart on Coinranking shows how the token has traded through the expansion of the data business. Full details of the announcement are in the Chainlink and S&P Global Ratings release.
