Introduction

AssangeDAO is a Decentralised Autonomous Organisation formed in 2022 by a collective of cypherpunks and activists united around one goal: supporting the legal defense of Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks.

Its native token, $JUSTICE, is an Ethereum-based ERC-20 token that serves as the governance instrument of the DAO. Holders of $JUSTICE can participate in community decisions and shape the direction of the organization.

History & Background

AssangeDAO was inspired by ConstitutionDAO, a landmark crypto crowdfunding effort. Following that model, the DAO pooled ETH contributions from thousands of supporters via the Juicebox platform, distributing $JUSTICE tokens proportionally to each contributor.

In 2022, the DAO raised over $53 million in ETH — one of the largest DAO fundraising efforts in crypto history at the time. The funds were used to bid on 'Clock 1/1', a unique NFT created in collaboration between Julian Assange and renowned digital artist Pak.

How AssangeDAO Works

AssangeDAO operates through smart contracts on Ethereum. Contributors send ETH to the DAO's Juicebox project and receive $JUSTICE tokens in return. These tokens represent governance rights within the DAO.

Initially, the DAO's governance is managed through a Gnosis Safe multi-sig wallet, with trusted community figures serving as signers. Over time, the community aims to evolve toward broader decentralized governance driven by $JUSTICE holders.

The DAO also plans to partner with high-profile individuals and artists on future NFT auctions to raise additional funds for its treasury.

Tokenomics

$JUSTICE tokens were distributed at a fixed rate during the fundraising phase, with no tokens reserved for founders, developers, or the DAO itself. Every token was issued in exchange for ETH contributions, making the distribution entirely community-driven.

No additional tokens can ever be minted. The Juicebox Project NFT that controlled minting rights has been sent to a burn address, permanently capping the supply.
