Introduction

TomoChain (TOMO) is a high-performance, EVM-compatible public blockchain built to overcome the scalability and cost limitations of earlier networks like Ethereum. It delivers fast transaction finality and near-zero fees, making it practical for developers building decentralized applications and for everyday users.

The network is governed and secured by a set of up to 150 masternodes, elected by TOMO token holders through a transparent voting system known as Proof-of-Stake Voting (PoSV).

History & Background

TomoChain was founded in late 2017 by a team of Vietnamese entrepreneurs, with CEO Long Vuong — a co-founder of the NEM blockchain — at the helm. The project raised $9.3 million through private and public token sales between 2017 and 2018.

The mainnet launched in December 2018, marking the transition from an Ethereum-based token to an independent blockchain with masternodes and PoSV consensus.

How TomoChain Works

TomoChain's PoSV consensus allows TOMO holders to vote for masternodes they trust to validate transactions. Up to 150 masternodes are elected each epoch, and each block must pass double validation — verified by a second randomly selected masternode before being added to the chain. This enhances security and finality.

The network supports approximately 2,000 transactions per second with 2-second block times. Because it is fully EVM-compatible, developers can migrate Ethereum dApps to TomoChain with minimal changes.

TomoChain also features several native protocol layers:

  • TomoZ — lets users pay transaction fees in TRC-21 tokens instead of TOMO
  • TomoX — a decentralized exchange protocol for launching DEXs on-chain
  • TomoP — a privacy protocol supporting anonymous transfers and private token standards

Tokenomics

TOMO is the native asset of the TomoChain network. It serves as gas for transactions, a staking instrument for masternode voting, and a governance token for protocol decisions. TOMO is also the reserve currency for third-party dApps running on the network.

Masternode candidates must lock up at least 50,000 TOMO to participate. In return, masternodes and their voters share block rewards distributed each epoch. Token holders who vote for masternodes also earn a share of staking rewards without running infrastructure themselves.

Ecosystem & Use Cases

TomoChain supports a growing ecosystem of tools and applications:

  • LuaSwap — a cross-chain DEX powered by the TomoX protocol
  • TomoWallet — the official mobile wallet for storing TOMO and voting on masternodes
  • TomoMaster — a dApp for tracking masternode performance and managing votes
  • TomoScan — a block explorer similar to Etherscan
  • TomoBridge — enables cross-chain transfers between TomoChain, Ethereum, BSC, and Solana

The platform targets DeFi developers, enterprise blockchain solutions, and Web3 application builders.

Team, Governance & Community

The core team is led by Long Vuong (CEO), Le Ho (CFO), Son Nguyen (CTO), and Tung Hoang (Product Manager). The team is primarily based in Singapore with offices in Vietnam.

Governance is community-driven through TomoMasterDAO, which gives TOMO holders a say in the network's development and partnerships. Masternode elections ensure that underperforming validators can be voted out by the community.

Advantages

  • Fast finality: 2-second block times deliver near-instant transaction confirmation
  • Low fees: Near-zero costs make the network accessible for high-frequency use
  • EVM compatibility: Easy migration path for Ethereum developers and dApps
  • Flexible fee payment: TomoZ lets users pay fees in any TRC-21 token
  • Community governance: PoSV and TomoMasterDAO put network control in token holders' hands
  • Built-in privacy: TomoP adds optional confidential transactions at the protocol level

Risks & Challenges

  • Masternode centralization: A cap of 150 masternodes introduces some centralization risk
  • Ethereum competition: As Ethereum scales through its own upgrades, one of TomoChain's core selling points may diminish
  • Ecosystem size: Competing with larger, more established smart contract platforms remains an ongoing challenge
  • Adoption dependency: Network value depends on continued developer and user growth within the ecosystem

Long-Term Vision

TomoChain aims to be a leading infrastructure layer for the Internet of Value — a blockchain-powered internet where digital assets and information flow securely and globally. The team continues to research advanced scaling techniques including sharding, EVM parallelization, and hardware integration to push performance further. With a focus on empowering builders, TomoChain positions itself as a reliable, cost-effective foundation for the next generation of Web3 applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

TomoChain is an EVM-compatible public blockchain designed for fast, low-cost transactions. It uses a Proof-of-Stake Voting (PoSV) consensus mechanism secured by up to 150 elected masternodes.

TOMO is the native token of TomoChain. It is used to pay transaction fees (gas), stake and vote for masternodes, and participate in governance decisions.

TOMO holders vote for masternode candidates they trust to validate transactions. The top 150 voted candidates become masternodes each epoch, and both masternodes and their voters share block rewards.

To become a masternode candidate, an account must deposit a minimum of 50,000 TOMO via the TomoMaster dApp. Candidates that rank in the top 150 by votes are elected as active masternodes each epoch.

Yes. TomoChain is fully EVM-compatible, meaning developers can deploy Ethereum smart contracts and migrate dApps to TomoChain with minimal changes. It also supports atomic cross-chain token transfers.

TOMO is the native coin on the TomoChain mainnet, while TOMOE is an ERC-20 representation of TOMO on the Ethereum blockchain. They are pegged 1:1 and can be swapped at any time via TomoBridge.

TomoChain offers TomoZ (fee-free token transactions), TomoX (decentralized exchange protocol), and TomoP (privacy protocol for confidential transactions and private token standards).

TomoChain was founded in 2017 by Long Vuong (CEO), Le Ho (CFO), Son Nguyen (CTO), and Tung Hoang (Product Manager). Long Vuong was previously a co-founder of the NEM blockchain project.
